Overview

The French Certificate Program at St. Barnabas Business College (STBBC) is a foundational program designed to develop proficient, confident, and culturally aware French speakers who can communicate effectively in academic, professional, and social contexts. As a member of both the East African Community (EAC) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), South Sudan is surrounded by Francophone nations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and Chad. The ability to speak French is increasingly essential for regional diplomacy, international trade, cross-border cooperation, and professional advancement in South Sudan and beyond.

This comprehensive certificate program provides students with a solid foundation in all core language skills, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary development. The curriculum is designed to bridge theory and practice, with a strong emphasis on practical communication skills through interactive exercises, group discussions, role-playing, and real-world language use that prepare graduates for immediate application in academic, professional, and social settings.

Students gain practical experience in composing clear and effective written communication, delivering confident oral presentations, comprehending complex texts, and engaging in meaningful conversations across a variety of contexts. The program also covers essential topics such as business French, Francophone culture and civilization, translation and interpretation, and French for international relations. Graduates emerge as confident, articulate French speakers ready to contribute to South Sudan's regional integration, pursue higher education, and compete in the global job market.
